When it comes to the future of architecture, we have a really blurry image, due to the huge amount of possibilities there are. In class, the way to deal with this unknown was to make groups, and then each one would develop a different aspect in which architecture could evolve in the coming times. I, as a part of group 3, was involved in the topic “Relation of Nature and Architecture”, which I personally suggested. So, in this section, the most part of the reflections will be about this aspect of the Future Architecture, as I reckon its one of the most important ones. Then, I will add some information and reflections about others presentations.
Our presentation was this one:
Nature and Architecture Presentation
In this presentation, as said, we concerned the class about the relation between architecture and the natural environment. We also talked about the importance of this relationship in the future, and how it would affect to us as humanity.
My part was about a feature that is being already developed nowadays, and I called it Integration and Inspiration. AS you may have realized, the main topic was the integration of our buildings on natural scenes. When doing my section, I understood that there’s a close relation between the two parts of the title. It turns out that inspiration means, in various cases, integration; as long as we place our creation surrounded by the elements that inspire their composition. Let me explain.
If I got inspired by the shape, color, proportion,…, of a certain rock and then I placed my building in a rocky mountain, full of this kind of stones, the result would be a completely integrated project. We could do the same with sea waves near to the coast or even a pine-cone inside a pine forest. I reckon it’s easy to understand, but its much more easier with the examples I used for the presentation:
I think that this is one of the most important aspects for future architecture, but we should also worry about the sustainability and energetic efficiency of buildings. This can be developed from the materials view, as a lot of the pollution created by buildings comes from the materials production, or from the view of low-energy/passive housing or nZEB Houses, but I will leave other reflect about those topics.
